Formulation, physical characterization, and antioxidant determination of liquid blush prepared from beetroot (Beta vulgaris L.) extract

Abstract
Cosmetics are preparations or mixtures of ingredients used on the outside of the body. One cosmetic that is often used by women is blush. Almost all preparations on the market use synthetic dyes. The use of synthetic dyes in cosmetics mostly contains harmful ingredients that can cause side effects. One alternative used to minimize the side effects of synthetic blush is beetroot (Beta vulgaris L.). Beetroot contains betacyanin compounds that have high antioxidant levels. This research method was conducted by formulating 3%, 5%, and 7.5% concentrations of beetroot liquid extract into liquid blush preparations. The formulations were then evaluated in terms of organoleptic properties, pH, viscosity, spreadability, adhesion, absorption efficiency, and antioxidant activity. This study produced the best formula for liquid blush on liquid beetroot extract at a concentration of 7.5% with several evaluation parameters, namely pH, viscosity, spreadability, stickiness, and percentage of absorption efficiency, compared to lower concentrations of liquid blush on liquid beetroot extract.
